I think we all know that regular exercise is essential for good health. But where do you start—especially if you’ve never had the habit or if it’s been years since you’ve been active?
The answer: start slow, stay consistent, and build over time.
In my recent TLC Chiropractic & Wellness Monthly Newsletter (click here to read the September edition), I shared some simple guidelines—and today I want to highlight one type of exercise that checks so many boxes for women over 40: gentle bouncing.
Whether you use a rebounder (mini-trampoline), a vibration plate, or even light jumping movements, bouncing offers unique, clinically backed benefits:
- Lymphatic Circulation – The lymph system doesn’t have a pump like the heart. Rhythmic up-and-down motion stimulates lymph flow, supporting immunity and reducing fluid retention.
- Bone Density – Mild impact sends a signal to bone tissue to strengthen, helping to prevent osteoporosis. Studies show vertical loading (like bouncing) is especially effective for women in midlife and beyond.
- Joint Health & Stability – A rebounder absorbs up to 80% of the impact, making it easier on knees, hips, and spine than jogging—while still improving balance and coordination.
- Circulation & Energy – Vibration training can boost blood flow, oxygen delivery, and even mitochondrial function, leading to better energy and recovery.
And here’s the best part: just 5–10 minutes a day of gentle bouncing or vibration is enough to activate these systems—without the strain of traditional high-impact exercise.
For women looking for safe, effective, and enjoyable movement that supports aging well, bouncing offers a perfect blend of accessibility and proven health benefits.
If you’re not sure where to begin, I’d be happy to help. Rebounders are inexpensive (though some are better than others), vibration plates are a bigger investment but highly effective, and even simple body-weight bouncing can get you started. There are also hundreds of YouTube videos out there—I’ve tried many and can recommend a few good ones if you’d like some direction.
